The past 18 months have just flown by. We can hardly believe it's almost time to go home.
I have no theme this month except to look back and remember the wonderful times we have had and share a few more pictures.
The first picture is Mike vacuuming the Residence (director's home). We take turns on Saturday mornings going over to clean and vacuum.
We had A LOT OF VISITORS IN DECEMBER In fact we were just 16 short of having 20,000 CARS DRIVE THROUGH to see the lights.
We had over 5,000 people get out and come in. In the director's home we served hot cider and cookies and had a display of creches from around the world. This picture shows the tree in the residence. We have home evening every Monday night here in this living room.
I did not share pictures of the entrance to the memorial in my earlier blogs. I really like the blue LED lights. Melanie and I decorated the largest tree on the right. It took us a couple of days.
This is our good neighbor Dave. We have often looked out early in the morning to see him shoveling OUR parking spot. He always has a smile. We will miss him. I think he will miss us too.We had two snow storms that put down more snow than we got all of last year. The first one was 13 inches and the second one was about 8 inches. Since these pictures were taken it has warmed up and almost all the snow is melted. It has been RAINING! Don't worry, it's supposed to snow tomorrow. We drove by a ski resort today and they were making snow.
Even though the monument is over 100 years old, it is still as brilliant as if it were just polished and put up yesterday. It is especially beautiful when the sun is out and reflecting from it. Whenever the sun is shining you can walk around and find a place where it is so bright you can hardly look at it.
You can see the glow of it in this picture. You can also see Mike shoveling snow from the walks. The other Elders were raking snow from the roofs of the buildings. It was a beautiful day. (Any day is beautiful when the sun is shining. )
Mike always has a great smile. He has worked hard here. We both have. We are looking forward to going home and seeing all the kids and grandkids and (we hope) getting a little rest. We shall see.
This year we have three new little spruce trees. They always look so pretty when the snow is on them. The evergreens are always my favorite.
This is another picture I took when the sun was making the monument glow like a mirror with a light on it. The picture does not do it justice.
One of the Elders took this picture the night of the live nativity. It was beautiful to see "Mary and Joseph" with the spotlight shining on them.
In the Visitor's Center we had many beautiful nativity paintings by Simeon Dewey. These are (Left to Right) Shepherds, the star, the stable, and the Wise-men.
This is a close-up of Mary and Joseph. It is a lovely tradition. We had about 350 people come Friday night and about 250 on Saturday night after Thanksgiving. We had two separate casts for the two evenings. This is a picture Elder Peterson took.
This is the Christmas tree at the Visitor's center and two of our favorite paintings; Mary looking down at Baby Jesus, and Joseph holding Baby Jesus. The little boy in the red hat matches the Christmas tree beautifully.
I kept saying that I never could get a good picture of the star we made. Well this one was taken by Elder Peterson (from Tucson). It is better than any I took.
Well Christmas really is over, except for the memories, and we are busy taking down lights and getting them ready for next year.
We are sad to leave, but excited to go home.
We plan to leave Vermont on Feb 4th, travel to Washington DC and spend a few days, then meet Todd and Angie in Ft Lauderdale Florida for a few days. Then we are headed to Oklahoma City to visit Al and Margie Robertson (cousins on mom's side of the family and dear friends). We will get home and be there a little over a week when we will be heading to Utah to watch grandchildren while John and Laura go on a cruise for their 15th wedding anniversary. It will be wonderful to see all of the grandchildren. We hope to be home April and May and then head for Minnesota in June.
We love you all and will SEE YOU SOON!
P.S. Remember, you can click once on any picture and it will go full screen size. Then you can use the arrow keys to flip through the pictures. The Esc (escape) key will take you back to the blog.
